(i) Located between 0° to 10° north and south of the equator, the region experiences hot and humid (wet) climate throughout the year.
(ii) Range of temperature is minimum (2 to 3 degree).
(iii) Rainfall is high and is more than 150 cm and takes place daily in the afternoon (4 O’ clock rain). Rainfall is convectional.
(iv) Laterite soil is found here, which is red and yellow in colour. The soil is leached due to heavy rainfall.
(v) Dense evergreen tropical rainforests are found. The trees are tall, hard wooded. Umbrella shaped with multiple species of trees in three tiers (layers).
(vi) There are swamps and marshes; hence the area is infested with insects and pests.
(vii) Wild animals are found.
(viii) The forests are inaccessible (impenetrable).
