Addiction literally means to devote or surrender oneself to something habitually or obsessively. But the worst form of addiction is drug addiction in which a man gets so dependent on drugs that they become the sole reason for him to live and are the cause for him to become a sick, vulnerable creature on longer fit to be called a human being.

Addiction to drugs is mainly seen among the youngsters who are not confident or too desperate to get the situation confronted by them or surroundings they live in. Having lost the power of reasoning due to drug addiction, they fail to understand that drugs are not a solution to problems but another far more serious problem by themselves. At first, taking drugs like smack, heroine or L.S.D. makes one feel like one has moved entirely into a new world of fantasies. But this euphorbia does not last for long. Soon we get so habitual in taking drugs that it does not give us pleasure but grows into a need which if not fulfilled immediately, grows into an overpowering compulsion to manage to get the drugs somehow by exactly following the maxim as very well explained in the saying “Beg, borrow or steal”. If not checked on time on its initial stages, drug addiction could prove fatal.

So let’s contribute our might to help those unfortunate drug addicts we come across by taking them to one of the rehabilitation centers to get out of this mire. As a word of caution to all others who want to enjoy life, say ‘No’ to drugs at the first time and ‘yes’ to life.

Drug addiction has become a big problem not only in India but also in many other countries of the world. More and more young people all over the world are falling a prey to this death-trap.

ADVERTISEMENTS:

There are many causes for the spread of this menace. In the present day civilization, much undue stress is laid on competition. Some who can’t bear this stress take to drugs. Then there are broken homes; and their children fall on easy prey. The greatest culprits are those officers and mafia kings who for their own profit encourage youth to this evil. There is a great need to face this evil on a far-footing. Death penalty should be imposed on any one found guilty of this vicious smuggling.

Drugs cause irreparable damage to the minds and bodies of young men and young women. Their energies sap dry. They no longer can concentrate. They are reduced to numbers.

Their rationality takes a back seat. They just exist for pleasure sake. The ideals of self-service and sacrifice no longer appeal to them. They cannot think of the welfare of their parents, families and nation at large.

It is a strange predicament into which they land and cannot get out easily.

ADVERTISEMENTS:

The Government is making serious efforts to wean away these youngsters from the vicious hold of drugs. Persuasion and education can help some but there are many who need effective treatment may be medico-legal to save them falling into the death trap of drugs.
