What are features of the U.P. Regulation of public religions buildings and places Bill 2000 that have caused widespread protests from minorities

This bill was passed by the U.P. State Legislature in January, 2000 but the Governor of U.P. reserved the bill for the consideration of the president under Article 201 of the constitution. Main Provision of these Bills are:

1. It made it mandatory for the consideration of any “Public Religions Building” – The permission of state Government through District office.

2. Mainly it was aimed to restrict terrorist activities in the 1100 km long U.P. – Nepal Border.

3. If Public order, morality, health or Law is violated, the collect orate can stay the construction.

4. There is also a provision of imprisonment up to one year or fine up to five thousand or both.
