Short notes on Division – Pteridophyta

1. Ptcridophytes are the vascular cryptogams with independent saprophyte. The gametophytic generation is very short lived and reduced.

2. These plants are predominantly land forms.

3. The plant body is differentiated into root, stem and leaves.

4. Sex organs are multi cellular with a sterile jacket layer.

5. Zygote is retained in the archegonium and develops into multi cellular embryo.

6. Fertilization is internal and requires only water for the passage of the mal gametes.
