Definition of education given by Phenix

In the words of Phenix “Education is the process whereby persons intentionally guide development of persons.” This definition may be explained in the following manner.

(a) Persons Guide Persons: In this sense, education is a bi-polar process. It is a person-to-person relationship between the educator (stimulus) and the educand (Response).

(b) Education as a Process: In this sense education is not confined to any limited period of life, but is a continuous activity.

(c) The result of this process is development.

(d) In this process, guidance is not mechanical and blind but intentional, deliberate and purposive.
