ADVERTISEMENTS:

Sir,

Diwali is a festival of light and joy. But this doesn’t mean that it should be celebrated in a noisy way. Year after year thousands of rupees are wasted on crackers and fireworks. During the Diwali week there is an incessant noise lasting from dawn to midnight. The deafening noise made by powerful crackers and ‘atom bombs’ frightens young children and adversely affects the sick. It makes it difficult for many people to sleep peacefully at night.

It is high time we stopped this practice of celebrating Diwali in a noisy manner. The Government should ban the use of atom bombs’ during Diwali.

Yours truly
