His son Parmesvaravarman I succeeded him. His reign period witnessed the full fury of the Pallava-Chalukya conflict. Vikramaditya I Western Chalukya ‘conquered Kanchi, defeated Isvara Pottaraja and destroyed the Mahamalla family’.

The Chalukyas claim to have reached Uraiyur on the banks of the Kaviri. The Pallavas on the other hand claimed to have driven the Chalukyas out of the Tamil country in miserable condition. The Velurpalayam record repeats this claim.

The Udayendiram plates confirm this and mention also the battle of Peruvalanallur as a great victory for the Pallavas. This aramesvaravarman was a great Saiva devotee who caused many temples for Siva to be built, and a temple for Ganesa at Mamallapuram. He bore titles like Atyantakama, Chitramaya, Gunabhajana, Sribhara and Vidhyavinita. He granted the village Paramesvara-mangalam to the Paramesvaragraha, i.e., the temple of Siva built by him. The whole village was gifted to the Brahmins.
