There are certain basic rules necessary for yoga. The ideal yoga practitioners must follow certain rules and regulations in order to get the maximum benefits out of the practice and to avoid the adverse effects of the practices. Let us briefly discuss all these principles of yoga practice.

1. Empty bladder, bowels and stomach

The practitioner must empty the bowel, bladder and stomach before going for yoga practice. He must choose one specific time for toilet and after some weeks the bowels will automatically evacuate at the particular time every day.

Try to avoid drugs and smoking etc. to clear the bowel. One may take 2/3 glasses of water and practice tadasana, tiryak tadasana and kati cakrasan 10 rounds each before going to the toilet in case of constipation.

2. Timing of yoga practice

The best time of yoga practice is early morning with empty stomach, bowels and bladder. Evening time is recommended. If the practitioner is a busy person he may practice any time of the day. But the stomach, bladder must be empty and not before four hours of taking food.

3. Dress

Light, cotton dress is good for yoga practice and the dress should not be too tight. So that one can practice comfortably, kurta, paijama, loose pant and T shirt, half pant and T shirt can be used for the practice.

One must wear tight underwear during practice. One should remove ornaments, glasses and rings etc. during the practice. One must wash the yoga clothes at least twice a week

4. Place

Ideally a well ventilated neat and clean room is good for practice. The room or place must be free from the unnatural smell or bad smell i.e. petrol, kerosene, or any food items, perfume, powder etc. the room must be free from holes, insects, and animals. There should not be direct air flow and the place must be covered and free from the public contact.

The room must be absolutely empty. The floor of the room should be free from stones, ups and downs in order to avoid injury during practice.

The room must be clean every day and twice in a week clean with water and washing powder followed by hot water.

Do not practice under fan unless it is extremely hot. Use yoga mat or blanket for practice. Always avoid to practice in a high place i.e. over the bed, on the roof if it is narrow.

5. Bath

Yoga can be practice after having a cold shower. This will improve the blood circulation and has some positive impact.

Those who are prone to cold they should not take bath before the practice. One must take bath after 30 minutes of yoga practice. Hot water bath is prohibited unless it is a special case. One should not use soap; shampoo etc regularly in order to clean the body. One must rub the body with towel in baths.

6. during yoga practice

During yoga practice one should not give strain or more pressure and don’t give over exertion if somebody feels. Pain, discomfort during practice immediately must leave the practice and do deep breathing, shavasana etc and latter on he must contact with the expert.

If somebody is tired he must practiced shavasana until feels normal during practice time if one is falling, he must allow falling down on the floor without going against falling. One must be very careful that the head should not strike against floor or wall.

7. Breathing

During the practice breath through nostrils is recommended unless specific instructions are given to the contrary. One must try to co-ordinate the breath with the practice.

8. Diet

As we know that food is the source of energy. Food plays a pivotal rolet sustain. Also food and the nature of mind are inter-dependent. If the food is not balarxr definitely it will affect to the thought process.

The practitioner should void mo spicy, oily and rich food. But occasionally one may take some spicy, oily and rich food but not frequently. Ideally once in a month but it is not necessary.

One should take food when feels hungry. Easy to digest and nutritious food such as rice, dale chapatti, ghee, milk, sugar, butter, sugar candy, honey, dry ginger, leafy vegetables green gram are considered to be wholesome food for advance yogi, but for th common yoga practitioner less oily, spicy and rich food is recommended. Foods like chilli, double cooked food, fast food (Gupchup, chat, chaomin, etc) are bad for health

The practitioner must fill half of the stomach and take water after 30 minute’ and leave empty one quarter of the stomach for free breathing. One must rimmed god or guru while taking food and avoids evil or unnecessary thoughts.

One may sit vajrasana for 5 to 10 minutes for easy digestion after taking meal. Hot drinks, col. drinks, soft drinks, alcohol etc. must be avoided. Every day one must take at lea three litters of normal water.

9. Age and sex

There is no such age and sex bar, everybody can practice yoga including children, youth, adult, old male and female.

The child who is below 12 years should not practice yoga because he/she could not understand the practice and the growth of the organs are not completed properly till that time.

10. Physical exercise

One should not practice yogasana immediately after performing exercise. A least 20 to 30 minutes gap must be there.

11. Awareness

One must focus his awareness on the practice, which will enhance the effect of the practice. One should not let the mind wander; the mind should be limited within the body.

12. Silence

Silence is very important factor during the practice and other time also. It will allow deepening awareness into the practice, more details discussion will be held later on about silence.

13. Relaxation

After the completion of each practice savasana can be administered for 30 seconds to 1 minute or may be more than that if desired. It is compulsory that at least 10 minutes of relaxation is must after asana practice and then prariayama practice may be started.

14. Sit straight

While doing pranayama or meditation or in other time while sitting one must sit with spine straight for free flow of energy throughout the body.

15. Prayer

Before and after of the yoga practice one must do prayer in order to get blessings and to increase concentration.
