The confusion and chaos which followed the death of the Bahmani king Muhammad Shah and deposition of his two sons and usurpation of the throne by Firuz Shah prompted Harihara to invade the kingdom and capture the fort of Sagar.

Firuz Shah, according to Firishta, recaptured the fort and advanced further when Harihara had to come to terms after paying a large sum of money. Even Raichur Doab, was taken possession of by the Bahmani force. But this version is not supported by contemporary Hindu sources, literary as well as epigraphic.

On the other hand, an inscription at Pangal in Nalgonda district clearly refers to the defeat of the Velamas and their allies, the Bahmanis. This is corroborated by a later reference which alludes to the siege of Pangal by Firuz Shah for about 2 years but without success, and the capture of Pangal by Bukka II.

According to another inscription of 1395. Harihara succeeded in capturing the Rangiri in southern Maharashtra. It seems, however, certain that status quo was maintained and Firuz Shah’s efforts for territorial gains were completely foiled.
