Essay on Science Library

In the campus of an institution, the most attractive and educative place is considered to be it’s library. There should proper provision of a well equipped library in all the schools and educational institutions. The meaning of well equipped library is that there is proper provision of various books and informational studies, by which students can find it easy to get various kinds of information properly.

A library is a quiet and most proper place for the study as well as for storing of different kinds of information. Whether there should separate provision of science library or not in the schools is a matter of debate as controversy is found among the opinions of experts.

A well equipped science library is that which can provide students of all grades and classes sufficient material by which they can enrich their knowledge of science. Through such library, students can gain extra valuable information in addition to what they get from text books and from their teacher.

As known that science is a practical subject, which makes it necessary for both the teacher and students to supplement their knowledge from time to time and to update themselves with the latest developments and researches taking place in the field.

As various kinds of innovations and develops take place in the field of science, because of which generally this subject is considered by experts as a progressive subject. It is only through the books that teachers as well as students can get their level of knowledge updated, and their task will become easy if there will be proper provision of such books and material in the school library.

Students will not gain from the science library unless there is proper development of habit of reading among them. If students do not love reading various kinds of books, then the efforts of school management to bring various kinds of books in the school library will prove to be wastage.

It is for this reason that teacher should try to develop this ability among the students for which he can ask the students from time to time name of book which they have read recently and to explain the points they explored in them. Teacher should maintain a cross reference index, which can indicate the information contained in the books, as it will help him as a ready reference and it will also help him as a guide to students in their learning process. To help the science teacher in performing various kinds of library works, a small committee of the students can be elected.

Various important functions are being performed by science library, some of which are as follows:

a. Science is such a subject where various concepts and knowledge becomes obsolete in short period of time as daily different kinds of discoveries are being made it in by various experts. For this reason, it is not possible for anyone to say that he or she possess the entire or whole knowledge of science.

In such kind of situation, it becomes necessary for the teacher to keep on upgrading his level of knowledge frequently. Although today various kinds of sources have been developed through which such kind of up gradation work can be done, but one of an important source to perform this task is to read books.

If there will proper provision of new and upgraded books in the library, then teacher will find it easy to revive his knowledge, by which his level of knowledge will become developed. It should be always bear in mind that a well informed teacher is always a source of inspiration to the students, for which, a well equipped science library plays very important role.

b. Generally it is found that information provided in the text book is not sufficient, as a result of which, students are asked by the teachers to explore various reference books also. Students will find it very difficult to purchase such books as their price is often very high.

If proper provision of such books is made in the school library, then this complex task will become easy and students will become able to get vast information and knowledge relating to various developments taking place in the area of science and technology.

c. Usually students find some extra in the school in which mostly they indulge in useless activities. If there will be provision of well equipped library in the school, then they can make proper utilisation of this available time by indulging in reading activity.

Thus, through this, not only their leisure time will get utilised properly but habit of self reading will also get developed among them. Sometimes students find various kinds of instructions for conducting practical works, by following which, they can perform experiments and can find new scientific principles and concepts.

d. In library, if there is provision of various books on the same topic, then by reading them, students can get wide knowledge of various topics. Through this, they will be able to understand and to comprehend topics studied in the class properly. Thus, they add on to the acquired knowledge through varied literature and materials by reading in the school library.
