Card index was developed by a French person called Jean Rozier. Each subject or customer is allotted with a separate card on which required information is written back. These similar sized cards are arranged in order. These cards are put in the drawer through a rod to hold them together. The limitations of card index are:

(a) Wrong placement of card may create difficulties of location.

(b) Cards may be substituted to conceal fraud.

(c) It becomes a difficult task to have a constant check on the card to see that cards removed for reference are put back.

ADVERTISEMENTS:

(d) Cards are to be replaced from time to time because they are soiled through constant handling.

(e) It creates a danger if a card is destroyed.

(f) It involves greater cost and small firms cannot afford for it.

(g) It takes too much time to see one card.
