Write a short note on Control Measures of Blight of Rice

The bacterial Leaf Blight of rice (BLB) can be controlled by following applications:

(i) More than 90 % of the infection can be controlled by treatment of seeds with antibiotics. It is done by soaking them in a mixture of 0.025% solution of Agrimyein and 0.05% Ceresan for 12 hours followed by hot water treatment of seeds for 30 hours or seedlings for 3 minutes at 52-54° C.

(ii) Severity of the disease can be reduced by spraying with Agrumycin + Copper oxychloride for 5 times at 12 hours interval.

(iii) Burning of infected stubbles and straws is also an effective control method.

(iv) Use of resistant varieties like IR-20, IR-22, Ratna, Not-22.
