What is the difference between Compact Bone and Spongy Bone ?

Comapct Bone:

1. The shaft of the long bone is compact bone.

2. Marrow cavity is present.

3. Haversian system is present.

4. The marrow cavity contains yellow marrow which stores fat.

Spongy Bone:

1. The end (epiphysis) of the long bone is a spongy bone.

2. Marrow cavity is absent.

3. Haversian system is absent.

4. The honey comb like spaces in epiphysis contains red bone marrow which produces blood corpuscles.
