There are two major aspect of distant hybridization modern and classical aspects. The following reasons are quantified as distant hybridization:
i. crossability relationships,
ii. presyngamic and postsyngamic barriers,
iii. methods to overcome the barriers,
iv. use of distant species to develop disease,
v. insect, pest and stress resistant varieties,
vi. methods of transferring resistance genes ‘ from wild species to cultivated varieties.
vii.selection procedure in the progenies of distant hybrids, and
viii. synthesis of new crop species.
In addition, various aspects of biotechnology, somatic cell hybridization, molecular biology and genetic engineering for the utilization of wild species are also another aspect that deals with distant hybridization.
