Cultural self esteem is so powerful related to behaviour forces having a profound impact on self-esteem.

During adolescence early maturing girls and late maturing boys tend to feel poorly about themselves- outcomes influenced by cultural standards of physical beauty. Gender-stereotyped expectations for physical attractiveness and achievement have an especially detrimental effect on the self-esteem of girls. Beginning in adolescence, they score substantially lower than boys in overall sense of self- worth-partly because girls worry more about their appearance and partly because they feel more insecure about their abilities.
