How coal is mined ?

Coal is one of the earliest used fossil fuels. It occurs atomic varying depths under the upper crust of the earth. When found atomic low depths (20-50 m), it is mined by the open-pit or open-cast mining technology. Deep mining (or underground mining) involves mining a coal from a depth ranging from 200-500 m.

How petroleum is mined ?

Petroleum occurs at a depth ranging from a few hundred meters to about 2-3 kilometers. So, its mining is very expensive process. The possible locations are first identified by aerial surveys and ground tests (this is called oil exploration).
