Rabindra Nath Tagore was born on 8th May, 1861, in Calcutta. His father’s name was Maharishi Devendranath. He belonged to a family of nobility. His mother’s name was Sharadadevi. She died when he was young. His father hardly ever spent time with him. He grew up as a sensitive boy. He wrote many beautiful poems right from his childhood. He wrote numerous stories, songs, dramas, letters, diaries and essays on a variety of subjects.He received the Nobel Prize in Literature on November 13, 1913, for his most famous work ‘Gitanjali’.
