The militarists carried on consistent propaganda against the foreigners and made the people look at all the foreigners as possible spies. They tried to focus the attention of the Japanese people on the Asiatic colonial possessions of countries like Britain and talked in terms of freeing the Asiatic countries from the rule of white races.

The growth of militarism in Japan was indeed a very dangerous development. The dominance of the government by the military led to in­creased militaristic indoctrination of the people and set in motion a vicious circle which when once started in motion drew Japan inexorably onward in a fatal spiral towards war.

Within the rank of militarists also differences persisted between the moderates and the extremists. However, despite various obstacles the militarists and the nationalists continued to strengthen their hold on the nation.
