Telugu literature comes after Kannada chronologically. It is known to begin with Nannaya’s translation of the Mahabharata in the reign of Rajaraja Narendra (11th century).

His junior contemporary Bhima Kavi was a contemporary of Anantavarman Chodaganga and he wrote the Kavi Janasraya, a Telugu grammar. Mallikarjuna Pandita, guru of Nanne Choda wrote the Siva Tattvasoram an exposition of Vira Saivism.

Nanne Choda was a Telugu Choda prince who also wrote the Kumarasambhava in imitation of Kalidasa. Somadeva, a contemporary of Kakatiya Pradapa rudra II was a prolifie writer whose Panditaradya Charita and Basavapuranua, dealt with the lives of two great founders of religion who are rightly famous.

ADVERTISEMENTS:

In Malayalam the first major extant poem Unnunili Sandesam is an anonymous work of the 14th century so that the bulk of that literature belongs to the period beyond the purview of this part.
