Notes on the Condition of Russia during World War I

(i) Russia suffered immense casualties, (over 7 million)

(ii) War had adverse impact on the industries. Russia’s own industries were few in number and the country was cut off from supplies from other countries due to German control.

(iii) Industrial equipment began to disintegrate rapidly.

(v) As more and more men were called upon to join the army labour shortages occurred. Small workshops producing essential goods shut down.

(vi) As large supplies of grain were needed to feed the army food became scarce in cities.
