The rise of Nazi Germany and her with­drawal from the League of Nations left a deep impact on the Balkan States. They felt greatly nervous over the growing power and ambitions of Nazi Germany. States like Greece and Turkey took an initiative to form an organization on the pattern of Little Entente. On 9 February 1934 Turkey, Yugoslavia, Rumania and Greece succeeded in creating the Balkan Entente.

The signatories to the pact agreed to guarantee each other’s frontiers. The pact also applied to any of the signatories if it joined an outside power that commited aggression against one of the signatories. Thus the Balkan Entente was more of a defence alliance than a mere non- aggression pact.

In short, we can say that the rise of Nazi Germany and the aggressive policies pursued by her on the one hand encouraged the growth of revi­sionist sentiments and on the other strengthened the status quo forces. This led to division of the world in two hostile camps and ultimately culminated in the Second World
