Daily prayer is a part and parcel of my daily programme. In India, there is hardly a man or a woman who does not believe in the efficacy of prayer. A Hindu or a Sikh must say his prayers both in the morning and evening and every true Muslim says his prayers five times a day.

“More things are wrought by prayer than this world dreams of,” said Tennyson. There goes a story that once Hamayun , a son of King Babar, fell ill. In spite of the best medical help available, he could not recover. Babar summoned all the saints and wise men in his kingdom and sought their advice in the matter.

They said, “Prayer will accomplish what medicine and doctors have failed to accomplish.” Babar went round Humayun’s bed seven times praying that Humayun might get well and in his place, he might fall ill. It is said that his prayer was accepted by God. Humayun got well and Babar fell ill and died. This small story from the life of Babar shows the efficacy of prayer.

I daily pray to God for strength and guidance, for health and happiness and for power to serve my country and fellowmen. This daily prayer gives me peace of mind. I learn to bear up when I am beset with difficulties on all sides.

ADVERTISEMENTS:

I learn to bear up with God’s will. I don’t easily lose presence of mind. I never lose heart. I have full faith in God’s mercy. If God be, with us, who can be against us?

My daily prayer has ennobled and exalted me. I feel that I am meant to do higher things. I am born to live not for myself but for others. In everything I do, I place service above self. I always try to seek, to find and to yield.

If sinners entice me, I do not consent. I am anxious to do to others as I would be done by them. I present a smiling face to everybody. I never lose temper. I try to be gentle and sweet to all. I try to follow other’s point of view. I never expect others to follow me blindly.

I never try to deceive or exploit others. My aim is always to be just and fair to one and all. I see God in everything. I never harbour revenge. I always try to do at least one good thing every day. Doing good to others has become a habit with me. I avoid violence in all shapes and forms. I am a firm believer in the fatherhood of God and the brotherhood of man.

ADVERTISEMENTS:

My daily prayers have brought about a revolution in my life and thoughts. Money is no longer my aim in life. I ask for what is just sufficient for my worldly needs. I want to share with others all I possess. I consider it a sin to enjoy my good fortune all alone I never feel single despondent. I am always optimistic. I believe that even the darkest cloud has a silver lining.

In a word, my daily prayers give me great moral courage and strength. I never lose faith in God even in the darkest hours when all worldly friends forsake me. I go about my work with hope and confidence. Success attends my footsteps wherever I go. I find everyone friendly and sympathetic towards me.
