Trifed procure forest and agricultural commodities collected by the tribals through its agencies. The material is marketed within the country as well as exported on most competitive prizes. The main objective of the scheme is to provide a safeguard against non-availability of food grain in remote tribal area.
Other objectives include promotion of the self help and making provision for availability of food grains during the time of natural calamities like drought, cyclone etc. Most populous and poorest of the villages are selected first and grain banks are established for such procurement of collected items.
