Brief note on Urodela

Urodela is an order of subclass stego cephalia of class amphibian.

(1) These are lizard like amphibians with distinct tail.

(2) Two pairs of equal limbs are present.

(3) Skin without scales and tympanum.

(4) Males without copulatory organ

(5) Larva is aquatic.

(6) Teeth present in both the jaws.

(7) Usually oviparous.

(8) Body with distinct bead, trunk, and tail.

Example: Salamondra, Triton, Ambystoma etc.

Triton:

(1) Smaller species of urodela

(2) Males are slightly larger than the females

(3) Skin perfectly smooth

(4) Adult, brown in colour with yellowish under-parts with red and black spot.

(5) Lizard-like animals attain usually a length of 7.62 to 10.16 cm.

(6) Tail is fin-like and most conspicuous in breeding male

(7) Found in damp and cold climates

(8) Food consists of insects, centipedes, worms, spiders or any of animal life.

(9) Known to live up to seven years

10) Enemies of frogs and fish nests.
