His period was still more critical. The sultans of Bijapur and Golkonda both took away a slice of his attenuated territories. Ali Adil Shah of Bijapur even attacked the capital Penugonda but was beaten back, thanks to the timely intervention of the Sultan of Golkonda and Hande Chief Malakappa Nayadu of Bukkasamundram.

But soon afterwards Qutb Shah changed his mind and Hande Chief too rebelled. Both of them conquered the places around Ahobalam and captured various fortresses. But Qutb Shahi general was unable to capture Kondavidu in spite of repeated efforts.

It was only after the Velugoti Chief Timma had been bribed that the fort could be captured. The death of the Sultan in 1580 partially saved the situation. The revolt of the nayaka of Madura had to be quelled.

Sri Ranga was also able to recover the district of Ahobalam from the Sultans. He died in 1585 without any male issue and was, therefore, succeeded by his younger brother, Venkatapati, Vicerory of Tamil Nad.
