Three types of papillae are found on the tongue. These are:

a. Circumvallatepapillae:

These are large papillae arranged in a V shaped pattern at the base of the tongue. They contain numerous taste buds.

b. Fungiform papillae:

ADVERTISEMENTS:

These are flattened papillae found on the top and sides of the tongue.

c. Filiform papillae:

These are small pointed elevations found all over the surface of the tongue.
