What are the four symptoms of Diabetes mellitus?

1. Hyperglycemia- presence of excess of glucose level in the blood.

2. Thirst- due to loss of fluid there will be increased thirst to replenish the lost water.

3. Frequent urination- urine is produced in large quantities and very fre­quently there is urge for urination. This condition is called polyuria.

4. Presence of sugar in urine- excess quantities of sugar are excreted through the urine, hence the name sweet urine. This condition is called glycosuria.

5. In some cases there is increased hunger.

6. Excessive production of ketone bodies(acetone, acetoacetic acid) will result due to disturbance in fat metabolism. Sometimes patients develop acidosis due to the production of acetoacetic acid.

7. Nocturia- usually patients get up in the night for urination.

8. Excessive tiredness is experienced.

9. Wound healing is normally delayed.
