This is the simplest method of reproduction found in plants. The vegetative parts of plant body such as roof, stem, leaf, etc., produce new members of the plant. You must have seen gardeners taking a cutting of the stem of a rose plant and putting it in the soil.
Besides natural methods of vegetative propagation, artificial modes of propagation are also being used. Farmers, gardeners and horticulturists have adopted several such methods like grafting, layering, cutting and tissue culture for propagating plants in gardens and nurseries.
Advantages of Vegetative Propagation are : Plant which do not produce seeds, are propagated by the method e.g., sugar-cane, banana, potato, rose, orange, seedless grapes, jasmines, chrysanthemum, etc.
When plants reproduce from plant parts, it is called reproduction by vegetative propagation. There are many advantages of reproduction by vegetative propagation. Plants grown in this way grow faster and bear flowers and fruits sooner than plants grown from seeds.
The method of reproduction in which new plants are formed from parts of the parent plant like roots, stem or leaves without involving the reproduction organs (flower) is called vegetative reproduction. This type of reproduction occurs only in plants.
