Indian National Movement got an impetus after the foundation of the Indian National Congress in 1885. Mr. A.O. Hume, a retired member of the Indian Civil Service, took the initiative in this direction.
A retired English officer, Allan Octavian Hume ( A, O. Hume) thought that there should be an association to give vent to the feelings of the Indians. He collected some prominent educated Indians and formed the Indian National Congress in 1885.
While Surendranath Banerjea was busy in organizing the conference at Calcutta, a retired British official- Allan Octavian Hume, convened a meeting at Bombay. In this, he received the cooperation of the important Indian leaders.
