This fibre is obtained from mineral rocks in Quebec, Russia, South Africa, Italy, New York, etc. This fibre does not have carbon in its composition and it is the only natural fibre with the property of being fireproof. It is resistant to acids and alkalis also therefore used for making filters in chemical industries and fire proof clothes.

Rubber is a separate class of its own, ELASTOMERIC FIBRES. The fibre forming substance is a thick gummy liquid obtained from rubber trees. This fibre has very high elasticity and low abrasion resistance. It is difficult to dye and gets deteriorated by sunlight and chemicals. It is used mainly for industrial purposes. It does not find much use as textile item in real sense.
