Partition of Africa is considered as one of the most significant events of the history of Europe. This was done in a great hurry and in spite of the mutual differences of the countries, no important war was waged.

First of all in 1876 Leopold II, the king of Belgium convened a meeting of the European nations in Brussels. His aim was to consider the importance of Africa and to organise African Conference.

But the high standard of morality of these conferences could not be maintained for a long time and every country began to work in Africa to further her selfish ends. Leopold organised a large kingdom of Congo in Africa with the cooperation of Stanley.

On seeing the increasing influence of Belgium in Africa, other countries of Europe began to make efforts to establish their colonies in Africa.

ADVERTISEMENTS:

Countries like England, France, Germany and Italy in order to enter Africa pretended to civilize the uncivilized people of Africa and to preach Christianity. Thus the robbery of Africa was started.
