The Russian Revolution of 1917 popularly known as the Bolshevik Revolution is one of the most significant events in the history of the world and ranks in importance in the category of the French Revolution. In fact some of the Marxian scholars would like to rank the Russian Revolution even higher than the French Revolution.

They contend that while the French Revolution put an end to the autocratic rule of the French rulers and paved the way for the growth of democratic sentiments and ideals of political equality the Russian Revolution apart from bringing about political equality also sought to bring about social and economic equality.

It gave a new current to the thought viz. Communism and Socialism which sought to create a new society, culture and civilization. It asserted that the real power of the society must rest in the workers because they alone produce national wealth. The Russian Revolution was also significant because it was the first attempt to give practical shape to the doctrines of Marx.
