The Lingaraja temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is a great architectural monument. The outstanding feature of the Lingaraja temple is the stately tower built over the Sri Mandir or Vimana.

The base of the tower measures about 56 feet inside. It rises vertically to a height of about 50 feet when the contours of the structure begin to incline slightly inwards and produces, at the height of 125 feet.

The neck of the tower over which is the ponderous fluted disc or amila sila, the whole being crowned by a vase shaped finial (Kalasa) bearing the trishul.

The total height of the tower from the ground to the trishula is 150 feet. This temple was built in 10th century.
