These temples were built in the 10th century A.D. and the group consists of a dozen of temples, none of them of imposing dimensions. The largest is the Kanderiya Madhav temple dedicated to Shiva and is 109 feet in length, 60 feet in width and 116 feet high.

The Khajuraho temples are admired for their architectural and sculptural excellence.

Their spires are considered the most refined and elegant of their kind and the sculptures are on a lavish scale, the ideals of the flesh and blood school predominating over the mystic.

The erratic scenes, a marked feature of the Khajuraho sculptures are from an aesthetic point of view, some of the most beautiful in India.
