There are many historical buildings in India. Most of these buildings were built by Shah Jahan. The Taj Mahal is an important historical place. It was built by Shah Jahan, who was a Mughal emperor. He built this beautiful piece of art in the memory of his beloved wife Mumtaj Mahal. It represents the love of Shah Jahan for his beloved queen. It is a poem in marble.

At the entrance there is a big real sand stone gate. There is a pathway that leads to the main building. The building is surrounded by velvety lawns, the royal palms and cypresses. The Taj is situated on a raised platform. In the centre there is a big white dome. Below it there is an underground vault. In this vault the two immortal lovers lie burried side by side. The tombs are beautifully decorated with designs, cuts in marble and inscriptions engraved on it. The walls are richly studded with precious stones.

The Taj is built on the bank of the river Yamuna. It is really a feast for our eves. It looks very charming on a moon-lit night. Its loveliness attracts thousands of tourists which include foreigners as well.

It was Emperor Jahangir who described Kashmir as a ‘Paradise on Earth’. With its tall trees, high mountains and sparkling rivers, the valley of Kashmir really looks like a paradise. Thousands of tourists from all parts of the world visit the valley. In summer they go there to escape from the oppressive heat of the plains. In winter, they come here for enjoying snowfall and taking part in winter sports, like ski-ing.

The Red Fort of Delhi is an important historical place. It was built by the Mughal Emperor, Shah Jahan. It represents the history of India’s struggle for independence. This is the place where the national flag is unfurled every year by the Prime Minister on Independence Day.

The next popular edifice is Diwan-i-am. There is a marble canopy in the centre. It is used to be occupied by the Emperor.

Then there is the War Memorial Museum. It contains relics of Mughal times. These relics are collection of arms, ammunition and war trophies.

Fatehpur Sikri is a historical place. It is famous throughout the country. Some foreigners also come to see it. Buland Darwaza is the main thing that we like to see at Fatehpur Sikri.

We also visited the various centers of pilgrimage in India such as Haridwar, Varanasi, Mathura, and many others in the South. We were impressed highly by such temples, as the temple of Bharat Mata and glass temple of Haridwar and the Basanti Temples of Mathura and the temples of Rameshwaram and Tirupati.
