The hydrological cycle denotes unending movement of water from the oceans to the atmosphere, from atmosphere to land, and from land back to the oceans. All these result in rainfall and snowfall.

A sizable part of rain water goes back to the oceans and seas through streams and rivers. The remaining part of rain-water infiltrates into the soil and also underground. A very small part is absorbed by plants and used by other animals.

The water is released during respiration and transpiration by the plant kingdom. It is in this way that a continuous cycling of water is maintained.

It is true that in the absence of the water cycle, the biogeochemical cycle could not exist, the ecosystem could stop functioning and above all the life layer could not be maintained.
