This type of communication is characterized by group to group or a speaker to group communication. Therefore, it becomes less direct, personal and intimate in nature.

However, it provides better scope for quick and easy feedback compared to mass communication. The degree of directness and intimacy depends upon the size of the groups, the place where it meets, the relationship among group members and the group leader.

The group ranges in size from three to twelve or up to twenty. For example, communication in committees, workgroups, family, extension programmes and so on require communicating with the group.
