A zoo is a place where animals and birds from various regions of the world are kept in cages and looked after. A visit to a zoo is full of fun and pleasure. It is both instructive and awarding.

I was going to Allahabad with my father. I expressed my desire to see the zoo at Lucknow. My father agreed and we got down at Lucknow. We deposited our luggage in clock-room. After taking heavy refreshment we took a Tonga and reached the zoo. We bought out tickets.

I was very excited. As we entered the gate we found ourselves in a lovely green garden. In the first enclosure we saw an ostrich, the champion runner in the desert of Africa. It was standing beside its egg which was as big as a baby’s head. We moved further and saw a big cabin surrounded by a wire net. Inside it we saw a number of snakes of all sizes and colours. There were also two very fat and long snakes called pythons in other cabin. They seemed to be two or three quintals heavy.

We walked on the pathway that leads to the cages of the animals like Chimpanzee, Hippopotamus, African Wild Buffalo, and Zebras etc. We were delighted to see the activities of Chimpanzees, the first cousins of man. They were swinging joyfully on the branch of a tree. The Zebras were also catching attention. The small black and white striped horse of Africa looks really very beautiful.

ADVERTISEMENTS:

The birds are too equally interesting. What a pleasing variety of colours and sizes they present before us. The dancing peacock is a centre of attraction it charms everyone. The colourful sparrows chirp sweetly. They look splendid. It looks more than half an hour to see all the birds. They are really the strange creations of god.

Then we moved on to see lions, panthers and wolves. The roar of the lion was frightening the small children who inspite of being afraid of the roar, were gazing him with strange curiosity. The agile and powerful tiger attracted us. But his blood shot eyes were very fearful. We bade him good-bye from a distance.

But the most beautiful were the little fawns and deer. We enjoyed their bouncing for a while and then came to the polar bear. It was sitting in the majestic abode made on the blocks of ice and electric fan moving over it in full speed.

In the last we came to the water-bird enclosure. Swans, ducks, water-cocks and many more were floating in a pond. The toted scene was very alluring.

Now it was time to leave the zoo. We came back to the clock-room to collect our luggage. The visit was both entertaining and educative. I learnt many important things about the wild life.
