‘Give me blood, I promise you freedom’. These are the words of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, which clearly shows his confidence and patriotic feelings.

Though he is no more in this world but his words are there to inspire us and to enthuse us with devotion to Motherland. He was one of the greatest heroes of the National Movement. He is popularly known as Netaji. He gave up his life for the cause of his motherland.

Subhash Chandra Bose was born on January 23, 1987 in Cuttack, His father was a famous lawyer. His childhood was very comfortable. Even as a child he was a very brilliant boy at school. He was a born freedom fighter.

He took a vow to turn the British out of the country at an early age. Due to this feeling he beat a European professor who was always making insulting remark on Indian students. For this he was turned out from school. He passed his Matriculation Examination from Cuttack.

He joined the Presidency College, Kolkata. After passing B.A. he went to England for study. He also passed the I.C.S. Examination. He had no interest for high post. So he resigned from I.C.S.

In 1921 he joined the Congress movement for the freedom of his country. In 1939 he was elected President of the Congress. He did not like the peaceful methods of Gandhiji. He called the people of India to take up arms against the British. Soon he resigned from Presidentship. When the Second World War broke out in 1939, Subhash Chandra Bose was put under house arrest for his Anti-British activities.

He escaped from his house in 1941 and reached Germany. Hitler received him warmly and gave him military training for two years. Now he became a good General. In 1943, he left for Japan to organise an armed struggle against the British with the help of Japanese. In Singapore he founded Indian National Army.

A large number of Indians living in South East Asia and Indian soldiers and officials, captured by the Japanese joined the Indian National Army. Netaji infused a new life and spirit into these soldiers and they were ready to do whatever needed for the freedom of their country. But unfortunately he could not get success which he desired. While flying to Japan, his plane crashed and he reportedly killed.

Netaji was a true patriot who carried on the struggle for freedom with great courage and devotion. Though he is not among us physically, but he is still in the heart of the millions of Indians and he will be remembered forever. He gave the slogan,”Jai Hind”. His heroic struggle and sacrifice has secured a permanent place in the Indian Freedom History. He stood in first rank of freedom fighters.
