Our next door neighbour is a doctor. He lives with his family. He is employed in the local hospital. His family consists of his wife and a son of about my age. The doctor’s wife is a housewife who looks after the family and their only child. They are really good people. My mother is quite friendly with the doctor’s wife, and so am I with his son.

Whenever anyone falls sick in our house, we seek the treatment from doctor uncle. And he treats the patient as one of his own family. He refuses to accept his fees from us. At that, my father feels a little embarrassed.

So from time to time, he sends some kinds of gifts for his little son. My mother also frequently sends sweets, fruits and flowers to our good neighbour’s house, as a measure of good gesture. Sometimes, my mother takes the doctor’s wife to the cinema hall, or to the temple, or for shopping, and the like.

Doctor’s son comes to play with me in our house. He also asks me to go to their house to play some indoor games with him. Thus, both the families live side by side with mutual understanding and co-operation, for years.
