14th November is the birthday of our beloved Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, better known as Chacha Nehru. He was the first Prime Minister of India. He used to love children very dearly. That is why his birth day is celebrated as the Children’s Day in India.

On this day every school or college arranges a function in its premises. The students arrange cultural functions and many variety programmes. Some schools also join the ‘Bal Mela’ celebrated near India Gate.

This year The Children’s Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm in our school. The Director of Education was the chief guest of the function. He arrived at right time. He was welcomed by the Principal and the staff. A grand cultural programme was organised. Many variety programmes were also held.

The function began with the song “Sare Jahan se Accha” by Dr. Iqbal. I also participated in this chorus song. Then, many sporting events were held. I came third in the Toffee- race’. The function ended with a very encouraging speech by our chief guest in which he said that. Today’s children are our tomorow’s hopes.” It was a memorable day for me.
