Republic day is celebrated every year on January 26th. On this day in 1951 India became a Republic. To commemorate the event, this day is celebrated with great pomp and show in every State capital of lndia.

The celebration at New Delhi and Delhi are the grandest. Every year long procession of marching soldiers is taken out from India Gate right up to Red Fort. All the armed forces are represented in the procession.

All States present tableaux depicting the scenes of their culture on trucks. Before the procession starts from India gate the President takes the salute. Hundreds of children from the various schools perform drills and parades.

The procession winds its way through Connaught Place and ends at Red Fort after passing through Chandni Chowk. Millions come from far off places to watch the procession. It is a very memorable sight. The cultural exhibits on the way form the best colorful part of the procession.
