MLhammad Ali Qamar is a young, talented and promising boxer of India. He won India’s first boxing gold at the Commonwealth Games. He hails from Kolkata. He was deeply interested in boxing right from his childhood.

He practised daily and it was his determination that took him forward. His training started at Kidderpore School of Physical Culture. For Qamar, it was a long journey. He first came into limelight during the 1994 State Championships.

The President of Bengal Amateur Boxing Federation, Mr. Ajit Banarjee, was so impressed by him that he took special initiative to mould the uncut diamond to the dazzling jewel that he is today.

Qamar’s first major break came when he won the ‘Best Boxer’ award at the Patiala Nationals in 1997-1998. He represented India in the World Cup in Argentina and the Brandenburg Cup in Germany. He won the gold medal in the light-weight category at the Commonwealth Games. He has a bright future ahead.
