Cristiano Ronaldo was born on February 5th, 1985. He plays at the wing or the striking position for Portugal and Real Madrid the Spanish La Liga team. He’s captains the national team of Portugal and he’s the most costly player in the history of soccer after transferring from Manchester United Football club to Real Madrid Football club. The transfer deal was about 80 million pounds and he is been paid 11 million pounds a year. With this amount he became the highest paid soccer player in the whole world. He has a buyout clause which is worth about 1 billion pounds.

Ronaldo started his football career for Andorinha and played just for two years for the club and moved to Nacional. He however moved to Sporting Clube de Portugal, the Portuguese giants where Alex Ferguson admired the young talented player and later signed him for about 12.24 million pounds. He was 18 years of age.

The next season he won the FA cup with Manchester United and also played the Euro 2004 for Portugal. In the opening match of the competition he scored his first goal for his country, though they lost that match to Greece by 2-1. However, Portugal still reached the final of the competition and yet lost to Greece again.

In 2007 Cristiano became the first player that could win every four major FWA and PFA awards. The next year he won the UEFA Champions League with his club Manchester United where he was awarded the highest goalscorer, the best forward for the tournament and also won European Golden Shoe. He is in fact the first winger to win this award. He also topped the award for Golden Boot in the Premier League. He was named World Soccer Footballer of the Year, FIFPro and becoming FIFA World Player the same year. This made him to become first United’s player that won the Ballon d’Or in 40 years.

He became the first player that won FIFA’s Pukas Award, this is an honorary award given to best goal of a season. The goal was against FC Porto in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions league where he scored from almost 40 yards.

Scoring 51 goals in one season he turned out to be the highest goalscorer surpassing the likes of Ferenc Puskas who score 49 goals in one season. In the same season he would then finish with a total amount of 53 goals. This made him to become the first Madrid player able to attain and exceed 50 goal margins a season. After six day later, he surpassed Telmo Zarra’s goal margin and Hugo Sanchez’s margin by scoring more than 40 goals in La Liga. He established a goal scoring mark of one goal scored in every 70.7 minutes. As a result of his goal scoring attitude he however won the European Golden Shoe award again and became the very first player that won the award in two different leagues.
