J. Krishnamurti is one of the original thinkers and writers of our time. Now, a centenarian, he was born on May 22, 1895 in Madanapalli in Andhra Pradesh. He is a philosopher and scholar of international repute. During his youth he collaborated with the theosophist leader Annie Besant in Founding the world order star in which he was considered an incarnation of Lord Buddha. But he relinquished the claim in 1928. Since 1969 he has directed the Krishnamurti Foundation at Ojai, California.

Krishnamurti has delivered lectures on mystical and philosophical subjects at many places in the world. He is also a writer of world status and fame. Among his writings are Education and the Significance of Life (1953), Commentaries on living (1906) and The Urgency of Change (1970).

Almost throughout his life Krishnamurti has been associated with education. In this connection he travelled extensively all over the world. During his travels he gave a number of public lectures and private interviews. He does not have any philosophy in the strict sense of the term. His sole aim was to liberate human beings from the tyranny of the mind as well as the tyranny of the body. His message to every individual member of his audience is one of ‘unity and wholeness, of total understanding and total living.’

Krishnamurti’s is a voice of wisdom and sanity in the strife-torn world of our time. His ultimate goal is the peace and prosperity of the whole of mankind.

ADVERTISEMENTS:

Krishnamurti is no doctrinaire or sectarian philosopher. He advocates human development in an environment of complete freedom.
