India today is one of the first ten industrialized countries of the world. Today we have good infrastructure for industries like metal, chemicals, fertilizers, food etc. Pollution is an evil invariably associated with development.

Recently pollution control has acquired attention of every individual, action, court proceedings, decision and expeditious disposal of cases against non-cooperating industries is on the increase

Special attention is paid to irrigation, drinking water; industries power generation, fisheries, wild life conservation, navigation, and even receptacles for treated water plants. Water logging or surface water flooding increase the salinity of the soil and many environmental hazards.

Very few towns have an organized water supply. Low per capita supply, inefficient distribution, distribution leakage and ill-managed system is a common problem of urban areas. 76 percent of rural population relies on well, hand pump, lake and pond water which may be contaminated, unsafe and sometimes rich in mineral. This consumption of unhealthy water may lead to spread of disease.
