In India the period from 1206 to 1526 AD is known as the Sultanate of Delhi or Delhi Sultanate because the Muslim rulers during this period assumed the title of Sultan and Delhi was the centre of their powers. Five dynasties ruled from Delhi during this period. After occupying Delhi and Ajmer, Mohammad Ghauri appointed, Mohammad Ghauri in 1206 AD, Qutub- uddin Aibak became the Sultan or king of Delhi and ruled from 1206 to 1210 AD. His capital was at Lahore. He built several famous buildings in India. He died at Lahore in 1210 AD while playing Polo.
