Gandhiji started the Quit India Movement in May 1942. A large number of people extended their cooperation to Gandhiji. The British government arrested many Congress leaders including Gandhiji and declared Indian National Congress illegal. The Indians came out in open rebellion against the Britishers. They set fire to police stations, post offices, railway stations and other Government buildings. Thousands of people were arrested and shot dead. The Quit India Movement made a great contribution to the Freedom Struggle of India. It made the Indian masses determined to get freedom.
