Gandhiji started the Non-cooperation Movement in 1921. He asked the people not to cooperate with the British. They were asked not to go to the schools run by the British, not to use foreign made cloth and not to attend the courts. The movement was peaceful. Some men set fire to a police post at Chori Chora. Some policemen died. This was a violent act. Mahatma Gandhi withdrew this movement at once. Gandhiji was arrested and put in the prison.
