1. A Chilly Winter Day

A chilly winter day reminds us of the very cold winter. It is biting cold. Life becomes difficult, particularly for the poor. The icy hand of nature dampens the spirit. The teeth clatter. The body shivers. We like to put on more woolen clothes. We cover the body from head to toe with clothes, overcoat, hand-gloves and heavy boots. Only a little of face, eyes and nose are visible. Rest of our body is tightly covered. The cold winds pierce through the body. They send a shiver to the spine. Everything is ice-cold and frozen. We like to take again and again hot tea, coffee and milk. Hot food is relished. One likes to stay in the quilt and warm room. Woolen clothes are much in demand. The cloth shops are flooded with warm stuff. Such shopkeepers do a roaring business. Parks and gardens wear a deserted look during the chilly winter day. People avoid going out of their houses. Only a very few regular walkers visit them. The fireplace is very favourite with one and all. People throng (crowd) coffee shops. In the countryside, there is little hustle and bustle. One wants to finish one’s work very quickly. One does not like to be in the open for a long time. One may catch cold any moment. Such a chilly and bitterly cold day is certainly not good to the poor as they do not have enough means to protect themselves.

2. An Unwelcome Guest

An unwelcome guest is a nuisance. He is a problem. He never respected or loved. He is even hated and despised. He is not offered a good seat. He is never given good food and bedding. Nobody welcomes him. Nobody likes to meet and greet him. He has come on his own. He is a trouble shooter. He is taken as a burden. He is constant headache. He is looked as an intruder in our privacy. He is taken as a man who disturbs our peace. He gets on our nerves. He bothers us a lot. Therefore, he is given a third rate treatment. Nothing special is prepared for him. He loses his respect in our eyes. He is served a frugal meal. People meet him with frowned face. It is not good on our part to visit our friends and relatives uninvited. Uninvited persons are thought as burden and not as honourable guests. We should go to our relatives when duly invited. An invited guest gets proper treatment. He is properly welcomed. All types of drinks and dishes will be served with due love and affection. In fact, you will feel pleased to get the treatment like this. You enjoy hospitality. To become a guest is a matter of great pride at that time.

Then comes the milk-man. He gives the daily quota of milk. His milk is creamy and pure. His charges are equally reasonable. He is very sincere and honest. By 8.00 a.m. the sweeper visits our place.
